Fox Collectors

When I fire my Fox Sterlingworth several times at the range or field it was seize up, will not open. What is happening? I think the metals are expanding making it impossible to open up. When you let it cool for approx. a minute it will open up.
Any decent options to eliminate this problem?

What brand shells, in particular primers, are you shooting? Winchester primers, in my experience, seem to flow around the hammer/firing pin tip and can make the gun hard to open. Most of my Foxes do not like Winchester primers so I quit using them and my problem with hard opening guns stopped.

I was shooting some 7/8 oz # 8 RST shells. Not sure which primer they use.

Fairly certain RST does not use Winchester primers so that rules out my primer theory and since these were factory loads there should not be a reloaded shell issue.

Does the top lever lock in the open/to the right position but the gun will not open?

It does not lock open no. You can move the lever to right and the gun will not open. I've shot Fiochci and they do the same thing. The Remington black shells don't do it as much.

Is this a 16 gauge?

Any chance you have a pic of the yoke and what it looks like? I don't know if I could see it without breaking the gun down.

Yes it is a 16 ga.

The yoke straddles the top lefever and activiates the rotary bolt. There are pictures in McIntoshes book if you have it. Taking the stock off will reveal the problem with your gun. Jerry
