A very sad ending to the building.
I go past it everyday commuting to Center City Philadelphia by train from the Suburbs.

Thanks for the update, sad, the way manufacturing is going in the US our grandchildren won't know what a factory building looks like.
When I graduated from college the opportunities in manufacturing were almost limitless in NY. In four decades it is all gone.

Ah, no more pilgrimages to the site! The brick building was the original Philadelphia Arms Co. factory begun in August 1903 and by late 1906 the A.H., Fox Gun Co. moved in. The reinforced concrete building was added a bit later for the making of barrels and magazine parts for the Serbian Mausers, and then later Colt Model 1911 parts.

Wouldn't mind having one of the bricks as a paperweight in my office.

Well stop the presses. When I went by today on the train on my way home I got up to the window at Wayne Junction and lo and behold everything is gone except the original building that had the fox Sign with the gun on top back in the day. (The sign is long gone)
So there is about 2 acres of fresh fill dirt surrounding the original shell of the brick building.
I am going to find out if it was spared for some reason.

I collect Bear Archery items, the older stuff, made in Grayling Michigan up until 1978 when the plant was subject to a strike by out of the area workers and pushed to Gainesville, FL. I stopped by the plant and not much left of it, pretty sad. Just about like the Fox plant. I hope they save what they can and make it a Historic Landmark, at least the original building that's still standing. It's really sad. Jerry

Sad, but I'm glad that we had the chance to visit the site last spring.

Very sad indeed. I love these old factory buildings. They remind me of our once powerful manufacturing capabilitys. Men used to be able to get a job in them and stay there until they retired. When I served my appenticship for toolmaking the masters used to come to work in a jacket and tie. All gone now...my how things have changed. At least the old Parker Bros. office building is still standing. The factory burned down in 1980 after some kids trespassing tossed a lit cigarette. I have a few bricks still from the old factory site in Meriden.
