I measured the barrels and they are 28" long

On the top of the barrels it says...
Sterlingworth Fluid Compressed Steel
Savage Arms Corp., Utica. N.Y. U.S.A,

369527

Any thoughts? The gun is in really nice shape.

Pat: Post some pictures of your Fox. Also you should order a letter from Mr. Callahan at AHFCA. What you seem to have is a late A.H. Fox Sterlingworth made after the factory and equiptment was moved by savage from Philadelphia to Utica, NY. You have a great family heirloom and a letter will give you a lot of information.

You are a lucky man. Small bore A.H. Fox guns are highly sought after and yours, although not of the Philidelphia era, still maintains most of the earlier Philly Sterlingworth style and qualities.

Pat you Sterlingworth is a 16 gauge. Although not as popular as it once was Fox 16s are very nice bird guns and are in demand as shooters by dedicated upland bird hunters and the basis for fine custom guns. I use several myself.

The chambers on your gun, if original, are shorter than modern shot shells. If you intend to shoot the gun much I recommend that you purchase specialty short shells from a Company named RST (rstshells.com). They are a bit more expensive than Wall Mart and the other big box stores but they always have what you want in stock and deliver right to your door.

Shoot your new gun in good health.

According to the table in the Blue Book of Gun Values, the 16 ga Sterlingworth, serial no 369527, was made in 1934

For Fox Small Bore guns, its "condition, condition, condition" and rarity. High Case Color, excellent unaltered barrels and a tight action are things that drive up the price on any small bore Fox Sterlingworth. We would have a better idea of value if you posted some real good closeups of the action, barrels, etc. You can also get an idea of the asking (not selling price) of various Foxes on GunsAmerica.com and Gunbroker.com PS. Great condition small bore Fox Sterlingworth's are pretty hard to come by. Folks used them a lot in their day and thus there aren't too many closet queens around. Anyway, more and better pictures would help us greatly.

......seems to me that "selling price" is a much better barometer than "asking price". You are correct, condition, condition, condition.....in MOST cases.
