original Fox skeleton buttplate photos?

Post by Dave Furman »

Hello,
I am in the process of working on a semi-custom fox, not a restoration but more of a restock with a few additional features generally following the style of an original fox but borrowing elements from various other grades, etc. The gun itself is a 1920's 16ga AE which has had a skeleton buttplate fitted to the new stock. Currently the buttplate is in the capable hands of Ken Hurst. Ken suggested that I try to find some photo's of any original Fox skeleton buttplates to model the engraving after so that stylistically they would be a fairly good match. In searching around this site I found this thread:

It appears the one photo posted is of an XE. Does anyone happen to have any other photos of original Fox buttplates in any grades? I doubt there are very many out there but thought I would ask the question on the chance that someone might see this thread and respond.

Thank you very much in advance.

I think that the X style engraving on the pictured buttplate is very appropriate for a custom project with "late" A grade engraving. By the way, Ken Hurst restored a Parker skeleton buttplate for me that was an heroic effort. I have considered removing it from the gun and having a case made for the buttplate. Thanks, Ken.
