AE 20 Fox value
I recently learned of an AE Fox 20. It has 26" barrels Imp and mod. all original with almost all screws timed properly. No wood refinish, almost all case color gone 1917 Philly gun. Barrel bluing very thin but no pits inside and out.
I've only seen photos at this point but the barrels may possibly be cut. I figured I'd check with a gauge to see what the lengths of the choke restriction was.
What do you think the value is?

from my experience around here... you are not likely get anyone to go out on a limb and give you much decent value information without a lot more details and a few decent pictures.... to provide a price based on your description so far would really be speculation... If the barrels are cut... it could be worth as little as about $500... if its all original, has decent dimensions, and the wear is just from use but the gun was never neglected... could possibly fetch more than $3000... at that point is would be about how much wear we are talking, almost no CC and very thin bluing will hold the gun down.
Cheers!

Ditto,
You see many A grade 20 and 16 ga guns on the web north of $3500 and you will continue to see them for a long time until one of P T Barnum's friends come along. There are guns out there worth more but they are unique and in high condition.

Re: AE 20 Fox value
The idea of my request was to get some idea of what a worn AE 20 would be worth. I think you've covered it somewhat. I can't imagine the condition it would have to be in to only be worth $500, but that's OK.
I think an unpitted 26" cut barreled AE 20 that functioned with no bluing, no color, and with a stock broken off at the wrist would bring more that $500 though. I can't imagine where that number could come from. If any of you guys have one that answers the above description, I'll give you $750 for it and you can make a nice profit.
Where these lowball numbers come from when someone asks about value mystifies me.
I suppose it comes from the guys that buy Mint AE 20s from ignorant widows for $300

Re: AE 20 Fox value
If the barrels are not cut and it is original with no issues, my guess would be $1500.(good buy) to $2500. (expensive) Good luck untouched 20 A's are a rare item. Craig

I guess that is why people are unwilling to answer the value questionDick Jones wrote: I think an unpitted 26" cut barreled AE 20 that functioned with no bluing, no color, and with a stock broken off at the wrist would bring more that $500 though. Re: AE 20 Fox value
Ok. There's just too many variables without knowing a few things. For example what if the barrel wall thickness was .012 and they were worthless. Then its a parts gun for the most part? If the barrels were good (but cut) and had zero choke left, some folks would still buy it to use for quail/grouse/woodcock/rats (me included at the right price). But then throw in a 3 1/4" drop at heel. You just need to know more information before you could really venture a good guess. Post some pictures and provide bore condition, stock details and I think quite of few of us could provide a ballpark idea.Dick Jones wrote:The idea of my request was to get some idea of what a worn AE 20 would be worth. Re: AE 20 Fox value
Assuming everything with the metal is structurally and mechanically fine, your still going to be in it $3000 for a decent restock and reblueing the barrels. Then what have you got? A refinished, restocked gun that is very hard to move for anywhere near what you have in it.
