VERY NICE collection of guns. Thanks for sharing, your photographs are very nice. The HE is a very early example and as I recall the card said semi-pistol. If that straight stock isn't factory I'll eat it. Nice guns enjoyed but all have been taken care of. Craig

The picture showing the 3 open breeches with the break levers to the right exposing the tang. I noticed that the gun to the far right had a hole right below the screw which when closed would be covered by the break lever. My Savage/Fox/Sterlingworth doesn't have this and most Fox's I've seen don't but I have seen a Philly Fox with this same exact hole that matches a notch on the bottom side of the break lever. What is this hole/notch for?

When I got the gun I thought it may have been after market but I have seen this hole on a few other Fox guns. I have no Idea.

I've never seen a Fox with a hole before, but reference to this pic will show it's where the locating pin is for the front end of the safety slide. Normally the locating pin is a press fit into a "blind hole", i.e., the hole is drilled from the underside and doesn't penetrate completely through the top tang. My conjecture is that the hole was drilled a bit too deep, and when the top tang was finished it exposed the hole.
The question is, if the locating pin is still in place on Donnie's gun? I've heard of one other Fox owned by a member that had the pin come loose at an inopportune time and causing a malfunction. If you probe through the hole with a piece of wire, does the wire go right through, or is it stopped by the end of the locating pin? If the pin isn't there the safety slide will probably act funky at times and may cause a SERIOUS SAFETY function issue. If the pin isn't there I'd suggest it be replaced by a competent 'smith. Donnie, I forgot to add what a nice Fox collection you have. It's nice to see a few Foxes hanging out together.
Thanks for your feedback Craig. I almost signed that post "Kautzky".
