Can someone give me some info on the straight grip trigger guard tang on Fox singles? Is it a long tang or a short tang? Maybe a picture or a measurement from the rear of the guard to the end of the tang would be helpful. I am looking at a single that has a straight grip stock but a suspiciously short tang that may be a pistol grip tang that was straightened. Help. Pictures please.

No worry, the gun is sold. It seemed to have a short tang straightened from a pistol grip. Sorry I didn't buy it, but someone did. Please report if you are the lucky buyer.

No, the gun I did not buy had a sharp ended short tang like on my pistol grip gun #400,176. The checkering is like a Victory Grade Ithaca, very abbreviated. So the gun was probably restocked. By the way, what happened to the #500,000 probably prototype single that was floating around a few months ago? Did one of us buy it? By the way, thanks for the pictures.

500,000 went back to the original consignee... that gun had major issues... I owned it just long enough to have a pro look at it and determine it needs to be sent back... I do have lots of good pictures and some interesting info... one of these days when I have some free time at home I will write something up about it here .... I did get to see it in person which was neat but as stated... a lot of money for a gun that was far from its original state and worth nothing more than a nice wall hangar.
Cheers

Well, tell us. Is it a prototype, maybe the first Fox single?

yeah, in my opinion as well as the opinion of Dewey Vicknair it was likely a prototype gun. Again, I am not at home and don't have all of the notes but as an example the trigger bow appeared to be for a double and was cut down and then dovetailed back together and silver soldered. the long trigger tang was the same way as was the top lever... it was so well done it was hardly noticeable. Also the trigger plate did not have a screw in it, rather it had two pins at the front that ran perpendicular to the barrels and slid into associated holes in the frame... very clean set-up..
on the negatives... the barrel was likely cut down... was choked something like .028 and appeared to have been very poorly honed at some point. The gun had been buffed and the barrel reblued. The original rib (which did not appear to have been the floating rib found on original SBTs) was replaced with a Simmons. The frame was cracked in two positions on the bottom and worst yet was that it was cracked just above where the bolt comes through on the left side making it no longer safe to shoot at all.
