Dave, I have read that ~ 4,000 12 gauge C grades were made. The AHFCA records top out at ~ 35,300 12 gauge serial numbers for graded guns (not Sterlingworths). I don't know how accurate that 4,000 number is, since the first ~ 10,000 12 gauge record cards were not/are not available. It was probably extrapolated. I've never seen an estimate of the number or % of C grade smallbores as compared with their total production.

Are you gonna be at the NE Classic at Hidden Hollow? Frank

Frank,Thank you for the information and more to follow on that subject.Reservations are made and I plan on being at Hidden Hollow with the usual clan.In fact I think the Michigan boy's are bringing two more guys.We had such a great time last year and Ernie does such a wonderfull job I wouldn,t want to miss it.I think without a doubt the Great Northe East is one of two or three premier events on the east coast. Wouldn,t you agree? PS I need to send my dues in and never got a notice. Where to and how much please.... :)

I just went back and reread Craigs article on C grade guns in the last Fox news letter. Very informative and a great job!

Dave I agree the NE Classic is one of the finest SxS events in the east, run by SxS shooters for SxS shooters. I know it's one of the highlights of the spring for me to rub elbows with my friends and drool over the guns on tables and on the courses! Glad to see you and the boys have room reservations made. I saw where Eightbore posted a heads up room reservation notice on the Parker site. Similar posting has been here for a while too. Maybe we can have that long talked Fox & Parker shootout on the HH courses? I see that the D M Lefever CA group will be there in force too, first event (I believe) of this type for them. Hey in case you missed it we will be opening up the Bo Whoop Long Range Shoot to other makers and will have a "Lewis" type purse setup. Of course the top Fox shooter gets the Bo Whoop Trophy.

Regarding your dues we did send out renewal notices after the first of the year and there's been a sticky posted here reminding all annual members of the end of March cutoff date. Just send your check asap to the NJ address. Name on it of course and with your member number if you know it. I'll post a link for our membership application which shows the NJ address.

Looking forward to seeing you Dave. And am I thinking right you got a new C grade Fox? 8) I'm sure you know they're a knotch or two above the similarly priced at the time DH Parkaahh. :D Frank

Roe Clark tabulated the graded smallbores for McIntosh's book, and the totals there were 305 16-gauge C-/CE-Grades and 413 C-/CE-Grade 20-gauges. That works out to 305/3521 = 8.7% of the graded 16-gauges are C-/CE-Grade, and 414/3434 = 12% of the graded 20-gauges are C-/CE-Grades. So, if one applies those percentages to the possibly 35280 graded 12-gauges you'd come out somewhere between 3069 and 4234 C-/CE-Grade 12-gauges. I would tend towards a lower number, because the first five years of the A.H. Fox Gun Co.'s existance the A-/AE-Grade was the lowest grade available and my gut feeling is that there is a higher percentage of A-/AE-Grades in those first 10000 missing cards. The whole time the Fox smallbores were offered the Sterlingworth was available.

Dave,Thank you for the additional info. This particular gun is indeed a 12 bore with the four digit serial number in the 2500 range.Really a quite nice gun.
