i took this pic off of the sterlingworth page, is this "button" on the forearm a stock configuration on some early guns? the reason i ask, my 20s SW has a hole in the forearm right where it snaps onto the barrels, ive always thought it looked intentional,"its kinda a nice looking hole" its very rounded and smooth.. would a 1912 SW 20g have had this button on it originaly?

The escutcheon on the forearm was only used on Sterlingworth, and early smallbore graded, ejector guns.

Probably your best shot would be to have someone turn one for you on a small lathe. That part acts as an anchor for the ejector assembly in the fore end. Keeps the parts from bouncing around in there. When you get one, give it a dab of blue loctite on the threads to avoid loosing it. I spent an hour and a half with a magnet and a flashlight on the trap range one evening looking for one.

You know, mine might just have a hole in it after all, where the wood was thin on the forearm because my gun has extractors not ejectors.

Does the wood have the same ser.# as the gun? If not, you may have some mix-n-match parts on there.

if you go by wood color and usage wear, looking at the gun it would be hard to belive that its a different forearm other than original,it matches the stock perfect, all the numbers match on the gun, although i havent seperated the wood from the iron

Any chance it has ejectors that have been disabled?

J Mason Do you have any pics available of the inside of the forend? I have included a picture here to show the differences in the forend irons between an ejector gun and a extractor gun. Which does your gun have? The upper forend in the picture is one with the escutcheon anchor and it has ejectors. The lower gun is and extractor type forend iron. It is possible that your forend iron was robbed of hard to find ejector parts at some time in the past. Paul
