Fox Collectors

I have inherited my Uncle Kermit's Fox gun collection. He cherished these guns and collected them over many years. He always told me that they were the best guns ever made. I have been researching these guns and found your collectors page on the internet. I would love to hear from anyone who can give me information on the history of these guns. I have a 20 gauge double barrel with serial number 250008. This is one of many Fox guns that are in his collection. Does anyone have any information where I may find an arms historian? Thank you.

I recorded 20-gauge Sterlingworth 250008 at a gun show in Mechanicsburg, Virginia, between 15 and 20 years ago. According to my notes the bores were pretty badly pitted. It would be a first year gun, late 1912 or early 1913. You can get a "letter" on your Sterlingworth or most any other Fox shotgun from John T Callahan at 53 Old Quarry Road, Westfield, MA 01085. Provide the serial number, gauge, and grade and enclose a check for $30 for Sterlingworths and $40 for graded guns. You will receive a letter in 4-8 weeks.

Thanks for the information on the Fox Sterlingworth 20 gauge. I have had the opportunity to study these guns some and I am learning about how to find the grade and the year of production, etc. I looked into selling them, but after revuew of information about these and having an appraiser look at them, I think I may want to keep them and join your organization in hopes that you can educate me more on these guns. I have A. H. Fox 12 and 16 gauge, Fox Sterlingworth 12, 16 and 20 gauge guns. There are 12 in his collection and I would like, after joining the collectors club, post some of the pictures I am taking on line to share with you guys. I have an historial letter on the 20 gauge, serial number 250008, which was written by Roe S. Clark in 1985 and wonder if I need to have any other documentation from Mr. Callahan on the gun. Roe S. Clark was the Savage Historian before John Callahan. John won't have anyinformation Roe didn't have.
