Just bought a 20 ga Sterly, 28" bbls and it's choked CYL/MOD and marked so on the bbls. Is this an unusual configuration for chokes? Incidentally, the seller advertised it as IC/MOD....the CYL choking doesn't really bother me but just curious......?

I don't recall ever seeing choke markings on Fox barrels. We'd like to see pictures. In that 28-inch Sterlingworth "Field" barrels were normally bored modified and full, I'd suspect after market choke altering and marking. I have a 1922 vintage 20-gauge Sterlingworth Field that letters as being ordered cylinder and modified, but the chokes actually mic .015" and .021"

If I keep the gun I'll post pics, I've encountered some issues with it.....1. the bbls are a bit loose with the forend off, so the action may need some work 2. the stock has a slight crack aft of the tang, 3. the muzzles are quite thin 4. the repair at the stock toe that was described as "small" is really about 1.5 x 3 inches 5. the overall condition of the gun was overstated and some other things as well (the choking being one). I'm in negotiations with the seller now and he is balking at the idea of taking it back. I'll keep you posted. It was a Gunbroker deal so if he doesn't do right by me I'll share his info with people so they can avoid him.

My 20 gauge Sterlingworth SN 261981 has uncut 26 inch barrels, my gunsmith verified that it has two and three-quarter inch chambers, and the chokes are ten thousands of an inch in the right- that is, front triggered, barrel, and twenty thousands of an inch the the left hand barrel. I am assuming that is improved cylinder and modified?
