stamp on barrel

Franks post on the BoWhoop post reminded me...
I saw a late style A grade around 26xxx with a large "2" stamped on the bottom of the left barrel directly in line with the forearm latch... any ideas what this might be? Larger stamping then the stamp size used on the water table and much further from the breech than I have ever seen other stamping.
