Folks,
I have a Utica made fox Sterlingworth that I wanted to get engraved. The engraver told me that it has to be anneled to remove hardness. I took it to a shop that oven to anneal metals. The shop engineer asked me in order to anneal this gun, he has to know what type of alloy it is?
Any help or lead where I can find what type of alloy it was made with. The gun was made in 1935.
Thanks.

I would recommend that you find another shop familiar with annealing and case coloring classic firearms.

I suggest you call:

Classic Guns Inc.
John Gillette

Ken Hurst recommends them and that is a pretty good recommendation.

According to Savage's drawing for the frame the material is 1020 steel.
