Fox Collectors

Have 2 guns on the bench..No 35 & 121. N0 35 has an extra set of tubes, Everything works "Well & Good" with30"pair, But when Barrels are put into action(28" pr) they wont alow the forend Iron to seat into the Knuckel the little "Sticky-up-thingy that is spring-loaded, locks-up solid and will not alow the forend to seat into the knuckle. I've tried McIntosh's "Just give it a Love-Tap' with a copper punch from the front end, but the little' Barsteward" is really "Up against the Wall"..so to speak!...So I'm hoping that some member of the "Foxy Fraternity", can guide me to do "What is Right" and I can have Both sets of Tubes,(And their respective Forends) drop into their Nests so that their next 90 odd yrs can be calm & Carefree, (And not have some dick-head with his(OR HER) pocket-knife prying the original,slim splinter forend off of the barrels!!! Mr "ADMIN"I like the "Technicana" Heading......Reminds me of a book I "co-write' with Ansleys White-Haired Bastard Grand-Son........Still have a Couple of Kopies on the Workbench.........GOOD Web Site. Well Great One very nice to see you post on our humble board. You might check to see if the tab on the forend iron is not bent up a tad and therefore not pushing the cocking slide back into position under the cocking arms or you might want to check to see if the cocking slide is not stuck or sticking.

.........interesting....number 35 used to be just fine with both sets of barrels when I owned it??? I wonder what the problem is??...no clue on my end.

Could it be that the "cocking slide" is hitting the end of the hammer toes rather then sliding under them?

Well boys it's been quite a while since I've posted anything on the forum. I have had pure h--- trying to get back on! Thanks to Craig, I'm back!

I'd bet a dollar I know the problem. The same thing happened when I started fitting up a set of barrels on a 20 that I didn't have a forend for. While I was fitting the barrels, I tried a forend off another 16, and it worked perfectly. I later tried a forend from another 16, and it would not go all the way down. It came to a hard sudden stop, which told me not to get too "forcy". I found the problem to be slot in the rear part of the forend iron was not cut quite as far back as the other one was. I could not see any part that this area played, other than an alignment feature. If you will put the forend on and push it down till it comes to a sudden stop, it will be about 1/4' of an inch from completely down.(I didn't measure). When you do this, you can see the problem if you turn it up sideways and look real close and you can see the back end of the lug that's soldered on the barrel is hitting the rear of the forend iron . It's very obvious when you go to really looking. You can varify this by putting a small speck of prussian blue on the tip of the little sharp point that sticks up. It will mark the spot on the frame of the forend iron when you try to install the forend again. Bryan Clary

I kind of thought the "jamming" effect of the slot against the barrel lug was intentional, and kept the forend tight against the front of the receiver. I can see it may need to be modified when using a different forend, but maybe only the slot in the new forend iron to allow it to close marginially firther onto the barrels.

The tension of the spring loaded apparatus in front of the roller keeps the iron tight against the hinge. On my gun the tip of the rear part of the lug on the barrel was hitting the bottom of the rear part of the forend iron . I had to lengthen the slot at the rear about .015" of the forend iron. Bryan
