Today I saw where an one-of-kind pic that I posted here for a friend, with permission, was copied on another gun forum with nothing indicated where it came from, nor giving credit to the owner who was kind enough to let me share it with our users and members.
While I don't want to make a big deal out of this, something about it bothers me. I would think normal decorum would be at least to give credit to the pic owner, poster, copyright holder, source, etc.
I for one will be more careful if I post special pics or proprietary information again on the world wide web. You might consider this yourself if you have something special and don't want to see it copied somewhere by another person. Frank Silvers

I think you're a bit "old school", Silvers.
Unfortunately, I don't think that level of decorum exists in this new cyberworld. That's assuming they didn't lay claim to the pic, but just failed to acknowledge the source? There's just too much information on the highway and much of it has a too short lifetime before it's kicked to the curb. I've amassed a sizeable collection of pics from the bulletin boards and too few of them are credited in any way. That's not through any desire to deceive, but because I was careless at the time I grabbed them. Also, most people's penchant for using screen names on the BB's makes it difficult to know who the hell I'm acknowledging. Sometimes I preserve the origin, especially in my "Other Foxes" folder where I happen to have some pics labeled "franksCE32."
Now, if someone actually lays claim to another's pics, that's downright dishonest and criminal. If you're concerned about that, there are ways to watermark them, which at least suggests you want to maintain ownership. That won't stop someone form stealing them and doctoring out your name, but in that case you'd know it was deliberate theft and not just negligence.
While we're on the subject, would someone PM to me the owner/author of my alltime favorite Fox picture..."Fox16andQuail"? I've not reposted it, but I've used it as a screensaver and emailed to a couple of friends. I regret not not knowing who owns it and I'd really like to acknowledge them....

Mike, if I had to guess I'd say this might be the excellent work of "birdawg".

I put it online for Fox collectors to enjoy, If that is what you are doing with the photo it is not a problem, as long as it is not being used commercially in any form, If I have my copyright on the image is it just easier to give the proper credit.
Best
