is the gun a SPE or an SPE Skeet & Upland
Marshfellow good question. This is my first experience with this model of Fox. I have been reading MacIntyre and looking at the Fox page, but at this point I am a little confused. Is the only difference in the choking of the two guns or am I missing something? I would appreciate the help. I don't recall the SN. 203 thousand range.

On the forum list there is a forum titled SP/SPE Grade Pictures. Check these to help determine if the gun your are checking is an SPE or a SPE Skeet & Upland.

Miike,
Thanks for the info, but that forum (if I have the right one) gives little to no information as to the difference between the two. It shows 2 guns, but there where alot of variations as to stock configuation and forends availible on special order. Where the skeet and upland "marked" differently or do you just measure them and get a letter? The one I question has the scroll engraving, the same forend, but with a pistol grip butt stock.

1S.S.,
In my opinion the scroll engraving is the indicator of a Skeet & Upland Game gun. Chokes, forends, grips can differ. The S&U guns are not "marked" as such vs SP(E) guns. Actually, they are a "subset". A factory letter with the serial number will be your conclusive answer. Do you have pics?

MARSHFELLOW,
Thank you for the reply. It does have the scroll engraving and matches the pictures on the directory, except it has a pistol grip. I will have to get pictures and order a letter.
p.s. I apologize to McIntosh for misquoting his name in previous posts.

A really bad picture of a good gun. It has the engraving.
It is a 20 ga. I guess I will have to get around to the letter thing.
I usually don't bother much, but if it is rare, I guess I should.
I did look carefully at the pictures posted on the directory and could not tell if they were marked on the sides of the frame A.H. FOX, as mine is.
Are there noted variations ?
Thanks to those who share the info.

Savage played pretty fast an loose with exactly how these guns were marked. Some have A.H. Fox on the sides of the frame but most I've seen don't.

Researcher, thank you for the reply.
To further enhance my reputation as a poor photographer, I will chance another picture.
Swings beautifully. Decent original wood. Certainly not a high grade though.
Single trigger is nice but I keep pulling the trigger guard for the second shot.

1SS, looks darn decent to me. No sense of trying to get used to that dang single trigger. I'll swap you something with a nice 2 trigger arrangement.
