It's a must read for a Fox fan. It's the only comprehensive Fox history that I know of and a pretty entertaining read as well. Judging from the many magazine articles I've read by the same author, wherein I often find him to be more poetic than accurate on subjects I have some knowledge of, I'm careful not to take all of his conclusions as gospel. On the other hand, after hanging out on this board in the company of people dedicated to learning the "truth" about the many facets of Fox guns, I can say the content of his book is seldom, if ever, outright contradicted. I recommend it.

I'd also recommend Macs' book. As well as numerous articles in the Double Gun Journal for Fox history and info.

MM was not and is not a Fox historian, but had at least one to collaborate on the book with him. You need the book, as well as several dozen others, if you intend to buy an American made double barrel shotgun for more than about $300.

What Eightbore said and----NO-- it doesn't come close to Brophy or Houchins' books on Smiths.

McIntosh's book is more a historical biography of Ansley Herman Fox, but certainly includes a lot on the products Ansley produced. It is not here is the A-Grade, it was introduced at this date, made in these variations...., here is the B-Grade it was introduced at this date...

The Fox historian and compiler who collaborated with MM on his book has just posted. He is also a director of the AHFCA.

Thanks to all for your responses. As a newbie, it's hard to separate the wheat from the chaff. This forum has been quite helpful in the short time I have been a member. Also thanks for not calling me out on my spelling. LOL Just noticed "comperable".

Jim C. I think you have to read everything you can find about any subject that you are interested in, regardless of who wrote it and use your own good judgement as to the reasonable facts after comparing it with other articles.
