If 95 year old hang tags are in excellant condition, I might be worried about them being the repros available on ebay --

In Photobucket, if you hover the cursor over your pic, a menu should pop up beneath it. Go down to the last one, called IMG Code, left-click in the window to highlight it, then right-click/left-click to copy it. Then right-click in your message box to paste it. Should look something like this in your message box....

Here's another Fox tag that isn't encountered too often. The "Fox Proof" tag with the proof info on one side and the other side has a replica of the Blue Ribbon that was awarded to Fox at the Pan American Expo in San Francisco in 1915. I believe Fox received the Blue Ribbon for their single trigger.

This tag came with the original hang tag for Fox 12 gauge A grade SN 19823 that I have posted pictures of in one of the other threads.

The serial number of the gun was not written on this tag. Who knows why?

By the way, this tag is not a reproduction. I have owned the gun with both tags since March of 1971

Gotta argue with you Bill. Ansley H. Fox was a good three years gone from the A.H. Fox Gun Co. by the time of the Panama Pacific Exposition. A reproduction of the Panama-Pacific blue ribbon was pasted to the covers of some of the big 1916 and 1917 "Fox Gets the Game catalogues", but the Blue Ribbon on this tag doesn't represent the one from the exposition. I have one of these tags from a bit later and Ansley's signature is gone, replaced with just A.H. Fox Gun Co.

The first mentions of the Fox Proof I find are in the 1908 "Campfire" catalogue No. 21. This Fox magazine ad is from June 1910 when Ansley was still at the helm --

Hey Dave, aka Researcher,

No arguement here.

That was my guess that the tag was a play on their award. And for sure, by 1915 Ansley had been out of the Fox gun works for a few years. I just thought that Clarence (Godshalk) and the boys continued to use Ansley's signature seeing they were still using his name for the company.

I'm glad you straightened me out.

Actually, if I had done a little research on the stuff I have, I would have discovered my error.

I got the above pictured Fox Proof tag along with the SN'ed hang tag showing SN, grade, bbl's, weight, etc. with my early A SN 19823. Thanks to Mr. Harris, I have a copy of the factory work card for the gun giving the specifics plus the date (shipping, finished,??) of "Sep 24 1912". Coupla' years before the San Franciso event.

I'm guessing the two tags have been with the gun since they left the Fox Phila factory. Would that seem reasonable?

Dave, by the way, do you know how to research US Patents by date? I was on their web site and couldn't figure it out. If you have an idea how, would you please send me a note at "biljolliff@aol.com" with the details.

Thanks for the correction.

I've never been able to figure any way to search patents by date. If you find out let me know.

Will try to finds some pics, but I did have a fox with orig hang tags, and remember it to be a pin gun. The tags felt like a waxed canvas material, never could figure out exactly what it was.
