When to chuck a stock

Post by Northern_Hunting_Mom »

I recently bought a plain 1913 Fox SW 12 GA. The stock has been pinned before. I would like to keep this stock if possible. When would you call it garbage?

It is in bad shape and if repaired will never look too great . It can be fixed and you can use it.

SW stocks were never more than a minimal walnut handle for the rest of the gun, totally utilitarian. This one has been patched a lot and, it would appear, patched poorly. Don't waste your time or money trying to save something that has demonstrated, by continually breaking, that it never was a good piece of wood for a gun stock. Restock it with a nice stick of wood cut to your dimensions and you will have a gun that is both beautiful and a pleasure to shoot.
Cheers,
