Fox Collectors

I recently got a 16 ga Savage Sterlingworth ejector gun with a Monte Carlo replacement stock. I want to replace this with a straight hand stock. I also noticed the back trigger is a tight fit with gloves on. So my questions are If I get a replacement left trigger from Numrich and alter its curve for more room would a 12ga trigger guard have th same size threaded stud? It would seem to be the easiest way to get more room, and I can save the original parts. Any ideas?

Trying to help out, I layed a spare 12 gauge Fox Sterlingworth TG against a smallbore gun, the bows and tails of both are about the same. It is a Philly 12 gauge TG and the smallbore is also Philly era. I don't have a Savage gun(s) here to compare. If it were me and I wanted to modify the bow for more finger room on a custom smallbore Fox, I'd check the threads and - assuming the 12 gauge tread is a different size and pitch - cut off the stud and TIG weld another one on for your 16 gauge frame. Alternately you might be able to rethread the larger stud for a smaller thread but that would be harder to do with a conventional die because its thread is pretty much "full form" right down to the bottom of the stud.

You didn't ask but I'd also have the new TG "stretched" by cutting and welding its tail for the new straight-hand stock. Otherwise the short tail on the TG may not look the best, IMO. P.S. I do not want to sell the spare 12 gauge TG I have. Silvers

I appreciate your thoughts. And yes I definately was going to weld a longer tail on. If anyone has one broken at the screw hole let me know.

Gunner, I know you're new to the Fox site. In case you haven't seen it there's a Savage Sterlingworth that's been converted to a straight hand grip, with stretched TG, in the "Custom Fox" section. Silvers

Usually when i restock a Fox to straight grip i use a Galazan long tang trigger guard. They are what Tony uses on his new Foxes and all you need to do is recut threads to fit your Fox. Bobby

The triggers can be heated, bent and polished to give you more room. Fox triggers do seem to have some variation as to where they set in the guard. Trigger blades can also be altered to move the trigger in the guard. If you want to restock the gun, that is another matter, but you don't have to replace either the guard or the triggers to get better spacing in your gun. The Galazan guards will often screw right into the Phila guns, I don't know about the Utica guns.
