New to Me chamber marking

Post by Researcher »

Here is a picture of a 16-gauge Fox-Sterlingworth that is on Cabelas Gun Library. A bit different chamber marking then I've seen before.

I just had a 12ga with similar markings come in for ejector repair. Acording to the customer the gun was originally short chambered and was lengthend by the factory when sent in for repairs.

This is the marking I'm use to seeing on very late Savage-era Fox guns or Fox guns of any age that went back to Savage for maintenance.

On my Fox-Sterlingworth Wildfowl they only used the upper line roll stamp.

However, on the extra set of barrels Savage added to my Super-Fox they used it all and ground out the 2 3/4 and engraved in a 3.

Beginning to look like I'm the only one interested in these markings. At any rate, I just found a similar one on an XE-Grade that would be of about 1927 vintage. These barrels also have the SP in an oval, Savage Proof, stamp on the barrel flats in addition to their original engraved Fox Proof oval.

Researcher I am certainly interested and thanks for the posting. I have read each post on this thread as it came up and value the information. I don't have anything to contribute but again thanks!

Best,

Mike
