My 16 gauge Utica Sterly that I bought in the recent G & D auction came yesterday. Did not disappoint. In like new condition with 28" barrels and weighs 6.4 Lbs. Can't wait to get it out to the clays course.

That is a nice one! Savage turned out a bit over 11400 16-gauge Fox-Sterlingworth guns. While the serial number range would show nearly as many 20-gauges, Savage guns start showing up in the 261xxx range and the last 20-gauge serial number is 271304. There is a gap in the 20-gauge serial numbers from 266599 to 270000. No gap in the 16-gauge serial numbers

I actually put a bid in on that gun because of the condition. Hard to find them like that. Bet your Llew will like it.

I'm glad it arrived safely and it is in wonderful condition. I'd be willing to bet that it will be one of if not your favorite bird gun.

I saw and handled that gun at the auction preview - you indeed got a nice one at what I thought was a very fair price. Kevin

I owned a 20-gauge that probably looked just like that back in the fall of 1938 when it was the 21st birthday present for my friend Henry Thomas of Federal Oak Farm in Charles County, Maryland. Henry was an English Setter man and in the fifty years between when he got the gun and he gave it to me, it visited every thorny growth and barbed wire fence from Southern Maryland to upstate New York.

While I owned it I shot several limits of Doves with it. Before I left the area I passed it on to a young friend of mine and Henry's there in Charles County who was into English Setters. A few years later he sent me a picture of the gun with an Upstate New York grouse.
