My best buddy from college invited me to come with him to Kansas this weekend and chase some ducks. The weather was going to be frigid, but he has hunted the area before during this time of year and had some luck. The plan was to hunt around some big reservoirs and catch the birds coming back to loaf around after dry feeding in the fields. The first day we sat up in a cove where we saw birds working. The action was slow, but we managed to pick off some. The weather was really cold for this Mississippi boy so I didn't take as many pictures as I'd like. I snapped this one from the first day. I was shooting my Super with some Kent #5s.
I finished with a limit for the day, 3 gadwall and 3 greenheads.
The next day the wind was going to be switching so we had to find another area. Around 11:00 we flushed a big bunch from a cove and got sat up. We managed to kill 10 before the wind switched again and they lost interest. I shot much better this day and really loved shooting my Super. Man will that left barrel do a number on them. I was pleased with the Kent Bismuth loads as well. I got 2 greenheads, a pair of gadwall and my first drake goldeneye. I did snap a pick of our view.
My drake goldeneye, what a beauty!
My strap, minus my last gadwall.
We hunted one more morning, and did really well on mallards, but the weather was calling for some sleet and snow so I elected to take my autoloader instead of dragging my Super through those conditions. Overall, I had a great time with a great friend and managed to put some in the freezer. Can't beat it.

Re: A Trip Out West
Very nice pictures and thanks for sharing your hunt with us. I bet it was mighty cold out there.
Shoot vintage firearms, relax, and have fun.
