Fox Collectors

Hello all,

First off, I am a die-hard turkey hunter. However, I have never killed a bird with a vintage gun, besides my 90s model remingtons . My Super is a 2 3/4" gun and I want to pattern it with several different loads to see what will work best. I see several companies make 2 3/4" lead turkey loads. Most are 1 1/2 oz of shot and around 1250-1300 fps. My question is, are those generally safe to shoot out of it, or should I be more conservative and look at some of the heavy game loads that are around 1 1/4 oz of shot etc? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I have shot winchester longbeard xrs out of some of my modern turkey guns with great success, but it looks like they have discontinued 12 gauge 2 3/4" loads as well as the Rooster XR loads that also used the shot-lok gel. You don't need any special load to kill a turkey with a Super Fox! The last turkey I killed was with RST 2.5" #6 16 gauge. Any 2 3/4" 12 gauge will work fine with that Super Fox.

The ones I killed with my Fox were with the Pigeon loads from RST. They patterned great.

The last 5 Tom’s I’ve shot have all been shot with Fox guns, (3” Wildfowl, 2 3/4” 32” SPE, 2 5/8” 30” CE, 32” C Grade 2 3/4”). I utilized either RST #5 2 1/2” I OZ load or 2 3/4” #5 Fiochi 1 1/4 OZ Turkey load). All birds were shot at 35 yards or less.

I have patterned Fox guns that would disable a turkey at 60 yards with a body shot. Those patterns were shot with 1 1/4 ounces of #4. Of course, #4 shot is not reliable for head shots at longer ranges.

Just buy a Browning B-SS with 30in. barrels. With this gun you can use 1 7/8oz. loads up to 2 1/4oz. loads.
No worry's, no sleep less nights wondering if your gun can handle Magnum loads. I Use 1 7/8oz. of copper #6 shot.
Have shot quite a few Turkeys out to 65yds. and more. But it is always nice to get them in closer, say 35yds.
But a lot of the Big Old Birds may not come in that close, that's when those heavy mags. come in handy. The
biggest Turkey I ever shot was with a Browning Auto-5, 12ga. 26in. imp-cyl. barrel with 1 1/4oz. #6 at about
25 yards, But that is another story.
