2025 Vintage Cup Cancelled!

Post by rickg »

The 2025 Vintage Gunner's Cup has been cancelled, apparently because not enough shooters or vendors signed up to participate

A sad decision on what were highly regarded and well attended events that have been downsliding for years now. But I'm not surprised. frank

Remember when RST would bring a BIG truck load of shells FS to these larger events?

Was never fortunate enough to attend one of these events. Wish I would have been able to. I’m hopeful that the Southern SxS, Hausmann’s and Rock Mountain will continue to be stand up events!

I attended the one held (I believe) two years ago in Pa. It was their first Vintage Cup and also their last. They were over whelmed IMO. Problems with everything from Porta Potty's to parking. Also had sprayed insecticide or something else on the grass where the big tent was and apparently residue from that spray caused problems when some folks laid their vintage guns on the grass. Also had problems in having the various ranges ready for shooters on time which lead to delays. I still had a great time with Kevin and saw a lot of nice guns and folks. However there were enough logistical problems where the decision was made not to have the event there again. After that event everything went off the rails. Timing was bad for when they had planned to move it to Maryland as bird seasons would have started in lots of places and many folks would rather be in the field. Hopefully something will happen and it will start up again. FWIW, at that last event a good many Fox shooters showed up and had a lotta fun. They had an absolute beast of a 5 stand to shoot.

I was on the course at the VGC two years ago when club staffers came by to change trap trajectories because of a narrow shooting window between leafy trees. Some might think that was good ….. but not after competitors had already shot that station for score. Shooters had paid tournament prices for the events; it wasn't a casual fun event at the local sportsmen club. I suppose you could blame that on the host club but the VGC officials were running the event and should have had firm expectations in place on not changing the presentations in mid-stream. That’s standard tournament protocol and is: Elementary my dear Watson. frank

Had I been at a shoot where that was done I'd have never gone back, unless there was new management. It showcases a total lack of understanding of competitive shooting, at any level.

With the cancellation of The Vintage Gunners Cup, some may be looking for a fall get together. Myself, Bill Hatfield (Robin Hollow Outfitters) David Cruz (Country Pursuits), August Morris (Barnett's Fine Guns) and other major dealers will be attending the Orvis Game Fair 9/20 & 9/21 at Orvis Sandanona in Millbrook, NY.

This is a beautiful venue and a great outdoors show with the fine firearms being a small part of a much larger outdoors show. I hope to see you there!

Well the club management in power at the 2023 Cup and the club itself are no longer .
