Am I missing something ?

Just bought a 12 gauge Fox online a week or so and got it yesterday its a fixer upper and the forearm won't attach I've taken it to an old gunsmith and he said he has only worked on two fox shotguns and it's been over ten years I took some pictures when I was there with him. We took the wood off and we think something must be missing we can get the forearm to attach if we pull the two tabs back on the bottom until they click for the ejectors but surely that's not how it's supposed to go on ? Something has to hold them so we can put the forearm on right? Also what is missing where the green circle is ? Thanks for all the help I've found a place to get parts but just need to know what is missing if anything

Yes. On Philadelphia guns a wood screw into some very thin fragile wood. On Utica guns a machine screw into a steel yoke inlet into the forearm wood.

Okay I'd have to look at the wood closer to see what I'm missing then. I noticed (forgive me for not knowing the right words) the small tabs on the bottom of the forearm that I assume work the ejectors in the picture you posted are set in a different spot then the ones I posted do those have to be pushed to set them before you put the forearm back on ? They are very stiff to try to move manually but the forearm doesn't seem to want to click on the barrels without setting them

I believe you need to cock the ejector hammers in the forend before the gun will assemble. The hammer in the picture you show are not cocked.
