Is there any negative to having a Sterlingworth with extractors? Is it one more thing to worry about breaking? I will be using the gun in the field.
Thanks.

Ejectors would be one more thing to worry about, though the 1911 Fox ejectors seem to be pretty trouble free. Extractors, as found on most Sterlingworths, just raise the head of the shell for extraction by hand.

That clarifies perfectly, thank you.

I'll be the first to defer to Dave as far as the reliability of Fox ejectors, and overall knowledge of Foxes in general. He has been shooting them (Foxes) for about 30 some years longer than I. But, having two Foxes with ejectors and two with extractors, I far prefer the ejectors for game shooting. The arguments for extractors are strong, especially for those hunters who wander as they hunt, i.e. grouse, pheasant, quail. Not having to look for empties on the ground in weeds is a big plus. But, most of my game shooting is done either in a blind or on a stand where I only move around a little. A hot dove shoot, or a lengthy covey rise on quail, begs ejectors to me. I have owned my extractor SW longer than any other Fox, and shot it exclusively on doves one entire season. Though I thoroughly enjoyed shooting it that season, I worked over my finger (and thumb)nails pretty good on a couple of hot shoots.

Given a choice of two guns exactly the same I'd buy the one with ejectors, knowing I'd pay a premium for them. That said, I'll never pass up a very nice double that I really like otherwise just because it doesn't have ejectors. Hope you enjoy the SW, they handle good.

Thanks. For the most part i'll be on the move. However, i think I'll base my decision on the other important factors and if it has ejectors, then that's fine.
I'll post pictures when I can.
