I recently was fortunate to purchase my first HE GRADE SUPER FOX SN 29903 at auction from J.C. Devine, Inc. it has 32 inch barrels with excellant bores choked full & full. I believe that it has been restocked but with an excellant fit as well as the BTFE. I have ordered a letter from Mr. Callahan. I plant to try it on some sporting clays this weekend.

Any thoughts as to the loads, etc. It has 3 inch chambers and is, of course, tight on the face. Your thoughts would be appreciated. I also was fortunate to ge a very nice AE GRADE 12 bore from the same sale & a L.C. Smith 20 bore SK1 & 2.

Best Regards, George

Good morning George, thanks for letting us know about your new Super. Small world amongst us Foxers. A fellow Fox CA member gave me a heads up on the Super; I called to get more details just before leaving on a hunting trip. It did sound like it had been restocked, and I wanted to look at the "Not Guaranteed" stamp and check the bores and chokes, etc. in person before bidding. Unfortunately the trip timing intervened and I didn't want to leave an absentee bid so I let it slide. I followed-up later and learned the gun was sold at a good price. And now it surfaces! I did shoot some bismuth through my own new SF while ducking last fall. The loads were done up in Winchester AA cases, relatively mild, and didn't really push the Super's potential. I'll do more load development work with lead 4's and 2's once I get her back from the stocker. Easter Bunny says he's bringing her back. Best regards, Frank

P.S. Also sent you a PM

I have had consistent good luck on ducks and at the pattern board with all my HEs (regardless of boring variations) with 3" 1 3/8 oz of #5 Kent Tungsten Matrix and the similar but now discontinued Federal Tungsten Polymers in 3" 1 3/8 oz #4s. Unless you can use extra range of magnum loads, there is much point in dragging around a 9 pound HE, IMHO. These are guns built for pass shooting not whacking mallards at 20 yards over the decoys.

George,

I have had an HE for several years and have used it mostly on ducks. All I have ever used is Bismuth 3" no. 4. It does a fine job on ducks. Also use it in my A grade 32" which has been opened from full and full to .020R and .025L. The HE is PG and splinter, but the A grade has been restocked like BW I, straight gripped and beavertail f/e.

Nice job at the auction. Tell me more about the 20 Elsie.

"BW" Neither Bo Whoop had a beavertail fore arm just for the record.

I can't get to my copy of a book I have by Mr. Nash at the moment, but I was remembering that it says that BW I had a straight grip and beavertail. My memory must be failing me. Thanks for the correction.
