Fox Collectors

Has anyone tried the rust blue method from www.rustblue.com and if so, how did it turn out? I've got a new to me AH Fox Sterlingworth project gun coming my way, might want to try this out on the barrels. Looks like a decent finish can be had assuming that you follow the instructions exactly.

I have not used that stuff.

I have only exclusively used Mark Lees Express Blue and have found no reason to try anything different. I can do a set of barrels start to finish in 4-5 hours in any conditions. The water tank never cools down. And the results are great.

Any high volume shop that does a lot of bluing, if they will tell you what they are using, it likely is Mark Lees.

I watched a comprehensive video on YouTube Friday evening and the gun smith echoed Brian’s comments on the rust bluing process w/Mark Lees Express Bluing product. It was an informative video and worth the 25-30 minutes. I learned a few things which is always worth while.

Brian, quick question for you. In the video this gun smith used a wire wheel brush for the carding (sp) process. Assuming you do the same. How do you ensure that any lettering/engraving on the barrels aren’t washed out/dulled when using a wire wheel?

The wire wheel would be a super fine stainless steel. It does not effect the surface, other than removing the built up oxidation.
