Two barrel Sets?

How many out there have original two barrel sets either in a graded gun or a Sterlingworth? I see in MM's book (my usual point of reference) that in the case of Sterlingworths extra barrels in the early years were $15. I'm guessing the costs went progressively higher as you got into the graded guns. Nice to know how many folks have these in their collections and whether they were original two barrel sets, or went back to Fox later on and a second set was made.

Also would be interesting to see how many two barrel sets were made (if any) where 16 gauge barrels were fitted on an original 20 gauge gun (and vice versa). I would think in sheer numbers there wouldn't be that many two barrel sets of the same gauge made, and certainly far fewer where two barrel sets were made with a 20/16 gauge combination.

I have A 1927 vintage XE 12 bore factory two barrel set. The extra set of barrels with forend cost $75.00 additional dollars in 1927which was about the cost of of an AE grade gun. The basic XE was $172.60 in 1927. Extra barrels were a very expensive option. Paul

Those extra barrels were a real bargin! Tony wants $2000 for an extra set of RBL barrels when you can buy the whole gun for $2750 PIF.

VATURKEY:

I have a 1920 vintage C grade 20 gauge with a factory two barrel set. It was ordered with 28" barrels M/F in as a C grade and the factory letter reads: "fit extra set of 26" A grade, R Improved Cylinder and L Full." The gun matches the Roe Clark letter. It was shipped to Dr. Louis O. Lusson September 25, 1920. The gun weight with the 28" barrels lettered at 6 lbs 10 ozs.

I wonder how much Dr. Lusson saved by ordering the "A" grade barrels?

I bought a Sterlingworth SN 103079 in Charleston, SC about a year ago. Mr. Callahan's letter states that it is a Sterlingworth Brush Ejector. 12 gauge. 26 inch barrels choked IC & MOD. Weight 6 lbs., 10 oz., to 7 lbs. Notes: Extra set of barrels, 32 inches choked F&F. The gun was shipped from Fox's plant in Philadelphia,PA on December 24, 1925 to the original consignee entered as Watkins Cottrell Co., of Richmond, VA.

The leg-of-mutton case that it came in has a plaque marked: "W.P. FARTHING, JR., XMAS 1926"
