So far this season .....

Our PA grouse seasons are now about 1/3 over and so far over 4 days I've flushed ten birds and bagged three - 2 with a Parker and 1 with my Sterlingworth Vixen. Both 20 bores. Also one woodcock with a Fox, and took a nice "fly by" ringneck yesterday on opportunity as we were walking to a cover, apparently flushed by another hunter. I've also seen many cock birds and hens on or just off the field roadways, and passed on them for other hunters so inclined. I'll post some pics after my last grouse hunt when the last split ends in December. I assume our Fall NL is just about done but if Smitty needs a pic or two as a filler I can send it/them to him. Smitty: send me a txt or PM.
Headed out again today. How are our other northeast grouse hunters doing? frank
Update on 11/16 - Flushed two grouse yesterday but couldn't get a shot at either. One barely in range when it launched and the other screened by heavy hemlocks. Also passed on 6 pheasants, all ringnecks, that were hanging out along the edge of the road or in mowed fields. Plenty of hunters and shooting in the stocking area and one told me they'd been put out the day before on Thursday. Also while in a grouse cover I heard someone let loose about 15 closely spaced shots in a stocking area about a mile away, sounded like an AR. So much for SOME modern day "hunters". frank
Here are 4 of the ringnecks .
