Fox Collectors

Opened Saturday. Went to a small field with a 12g SW M/F. Dogs put up 2, missed first one got second. Brush was still overgrown and birds just not flushing.

Went out this morning to one of the larger corn fields using a different SW 12g F/F. Got a hen and dogs put up several roosters but all too far to shoot (running the corn rows). Dogs proceeded to play tug a war with the hen and several limbs were removed in the process.

Tonight flushed several more roosters from the same rows shooting at 1 and winging it. Flew wobbly about 150yds across stubs crashing landing in another row with Mollie chasing in hot pursuit. She found it. Hit with my Parker 12g VH.

Short hunt tonight. Temps were 85deg.

From today. They are having a great time. Roosters are 12g VH and hen 20g Trojan. I live 1mi from 2 large well stocked and maintained fields. Lots of nice cover. Most like to hunt the grassed areas leaving the corn rows alone, which is what my dogs love to hunt. They love chasing them and I don't mind. To me the best part is watching them have fun.

Thanks Jeff. Actually dogs are having a great season. They don't run fields they sniff for ground scents then follow and find bird many times hundreds of feet away. Once they know where or see the bird they stiffen and shake, quick point then charge. Biggest challenge is keeping up with them because the closer they get the faster they run. Miss quite a few because they get far ahead but they just have drive and want to catch and dismember the bird. It's all about them.
