It was a very long process to finally get it.
Plenty of good from my perspective.
It has 26" barrels
A single trigger
Nice wood
Is choked IC/IC
Probably a ton of bad from a collectors one also.
Looks to have been in a vise at some point.
Barrel colors are funky
Wood may not be original.
Barrels may have been cut and whatever else you can point out
Here it is anyway

Looks to me like the barrels have been reblued and cut, wood possibly replaced but the receiver looks nice. Engraving looks good and possibly unmessed with. It’s a gun you wouldn’t be afraid to take in the brush and it is your own XE, Foxes most attractive gun IMO.

Interesting gun. With the 12 GA. -- 2 3/4 IN. CHAMBER roll-stamp on the left barrel it visited Savage probably in the mid to late 1930s. Undoubtably got the beavertail forearm with the reinforcing yoke at that time.

Thanks and interesting David
Being new with the serial On the foreend I actually thought that part may be original.

I’m with Dave, the 2 3/4” stamp and forend yoke looks to have been done by Savage. Engraving and color on frame looks great! While barrels look to have been cut as Jeff said it’s a grouse getter!! Beutiful wood! Congrats!

Out of curiosity
There is no recoil pad
The area is just checkered
Has anyone seen this done ?

No surprise the barrels were shortened.
I figured some may like to see the card on it.

Thanks for posting the card. Another duck gun bites the dust. 32” barrels choked full with a 13” lop and a single trigger. Perfect for a heavy coat and a gloved finger. Water over the dam now. All you can do now is return it to glory by making it queen of the uplands. Even though she’s damaged goods, she’ll look beautiful with a few woodcock and grouse. Also, you’ll look good on the skeet field with it. It’s a gorgeous gun.

If you get a chance some more pictures of that beavertail forearm would be nice.

Thanks Paul for posting. Looks good to me. One odd thing is that your gun obviously went to Savage at some point but it doesn't have the SP/oval re-proof mark. But with that said I'm sure Savage didn't do the barrel shortening. If I owned your XE I'd get the two compression marks (vise?) on the frame laser welded, dressed downed, reengraved and faux colored. Also replace the solder at the muzzles with proper steel keels and again age colored. Being an original 32" gun she probably has zero choke in both barrels, and that wouldn't work out for my upland hunting. I'd talk with Briley about doing thin walls, permanently locked in place and with the wrench slots dressed off so as to be hardly noticeable from the muzzle end. Something like IC/Mod or better yet Mod/I-Mod. Again, thanks for posting a cool XE. frank
