Pheasants with the Vintagers

Today the West Lakes chapter of the Vintagers met at "The Pheasant Farm" located just northwest of Grand Rapids for a little "pre-Christmas" fun. There were 16 participants, forming 3 groups, two with pointers and one with flushing dogs. What made this event especially nice was that our own Brett Farley (Foxnut) brought his Llewelyn Setter, Rosey. I have only hunted behind a pointer once before and Rosey was a pure delight. Lots of energy and a great nose! She "locked-up" on birds that we walked right past, and she chased down a few "cripples". If any of you ever have the opportunity to hunt with Rosey, take it!

This was a very nice event, and the local chapter of the Vintagers provides a "local" opportunity to shoot with like-minded people. Jeff

Nice Jeff! I will have a similar opportunity on 27 JAN with my SIL at Orvis Hill Country near Emmitsburg, MD. We will be using German Wirehair Pointers and maybe a Wirehair Pointing Griffon. I have never hunted over either breed, so I am hoping to experience your same delight(s).. Kevin

Jeff and I represented the Fox Family proudly today. If you notice I am sporting my A.H Fox Collectors Assoc. hat. We ended up with very pleasant weather sans a light rain mid day. A very enjoyable day with like minded shooters.

Thanks for posting those great pictures, Jeff.

What could be better: smiling faces, good friends, great guns, some birds and your dog.

Perfect!

Hard to find a good Llew these days. Many folks are just wanting a Llew for pets for some reason. I've got a good one and she's old school as far as being a great bird finder and will hold a point for a long long time waiting for the tired leg folks to get there. Looks like a wonderful time indeed.
