Fox Collectors

It kills me to sell any Fox, but I have returned many to the stream of commerce to upgrade my collection. I had a 80% condition Super Fox with 3" chambers 30" barrels, great stock dimensions, yada yada. A guy offered me stupid money and I let it go. I would love to buy it back, I killed a boat load of ducks with that gun. How about you???

I had an almost mint early AE with 95 percent case colors and 100 percent barrel blueing. Only problem was it was 12 gauge with 30" barrels and I had no use for it at the time. Now with some of the vintage double shoots I'd be using it at few times a year. Chokes were full/mod. For me at the time it was a safe queen that wasn't going to be used and I was (and still am) smitten by the small bores. PS. It had the early style engraving which again, didn't float my boat, but goodness it was a nice example of an early gun. Came out of Middleburg Va.

Not a real Fox, but a Model B that I found for my father-in-law; a 1960-ish 12ga in really nice condition with double triggers and a vent rib, maybe the last of 'em before they went completely 2x4 with hardwood stocks, pressed checkering, et al. He liked my doubles and thought he'd like to have one - not too expensive, he said - and he was very pleased with it when I brought it home. One of the things he liked about it was that "it had some weight to it." When's the last time you heard someone say that about a double gun? My mother-in-law gave It to me when he passed, and sometime thereafter my wife and I decided that she needed the money more than I needed the gun; she never asked for it but we thought it the right thing to do, so I sold it and gave her the money. She's gone now too. I think about that gun now and then, and even though I know I wouldn't shoot it much, I wish it was still in the cabinet, sitting there with its memories.

I’ve only sold one Fox and I regret it. It was a 12 ga., 2nd gen A, probably made around 1915. 28” barrels, choked cylinder / mod per the card. Great gun and I shot a lot of skeet with it. I purchased a 10 ga. Hammer gun and felt that I should sell one to offset the expenditure. Big mistake!!! Now I have a son-in-law that could use it. To add “insult to injury”, a year later the new owner listed it on GI. I should have kept it.

Yeah, I had one just like it that I regret selling. It was a superb example of an early second generation A.

Oh gosh, where do I start?

Probably a late style BE 20 that I sold many years ago.

Then an HE12 with 2 sets of barrels, a 30" and a 32".

Next would be . . . .

That gun sure was in great condition.

At this moment, no regrets. Can't bring myself to sell any at this point.

Yes, it was a dandy, and it had nice wood.

I miss having my Fox-Sterlingworth Wildfowl pictured on page 228 of McIntosh's book. But, I never did anything with the gun but take it to Headrick for the pictures, and the next owner did a The Double Gun Journal article on the Wildfowls so I guess selling was a good thing.

I have many I regret selling but like Craig said many were sold to fund an upgrade to my collection. Hands down the one I think of most often with regret for is a very nice HE/Super Fox 12 gauge 32” F/XF. The only solace is that the gun went to Burt Becker’s grandson. If I had to sell it what better place for it to be cared for but the family of Burt Becker!!

Well, there's two for me. A very nice unmolested BE 20ga w 32" barrels and my high condition HE 20. The BE had no CC so I moved it.... that was uncalled for as it was a nice gun. I just plain had a fart in my head with the HE but it went to a friend with a super collection. Oh, well.

I’ll bet that 32” 20 ga. was a sweet gun to shoot.

1962 was a junior in High School sold my DE 2 barrel set, 26 and 32 inch barrels, 12 ga, pistol grip splinter forend. Got a whooping $ 650. Thought I made a good deal. Regretted it ever since. Now I just don't sell any. Sold it because I thought it was too nice to take duck hunting and had other Foxes I could use. Put the money towards a car a 1961 Mercury Monterey.
