Rosie and I along with my son-in-law and his 2 1/2 y/o Maple headed for SD early Friday morning after Thanksgiving. There were 8 guys and 5 English Setters chasing pheasant, sharp tail, and huns. We hunted the same ranch we hunted last year along w/some public land near that ranch. Weather ranged from 14 degrees and sunny to 30-35 mph winds to a dusting of snow this morning. Bird populations were great this year with a noticeable uptick in Sharptail and Huns. Rosey is 5 1/2 and continues to exceed my expectations. One more day of public land hunting and then heading home.

Brett, those are nice pictures and it looks like you guys had a good time. Ultimately, there’s always wind in South Dakota.

Thanks for the great pics Brett. SD is just a wonderful place to hunt and yes, the wind is always a factor out there.

We finished up our hunt today on all public land with a focus on Sharptails. I managed a limit on sharpies and picked up two roosters to boot. Snow yesterday and got up to 52 degrees at 1:30 today. At one point today I shot a rooster off of Rosey’s point to my left and on the report two Sharptails flew to my right. I picked off one of them and my son-in-law got the other. Rosey retrieved the rooster then hunted dead the two sharpies and retrieved both of them. That’s when a dog is a blessing!!
