A Good Day

Post by Jeff S »

Over the years I’ve posted several pictures with ducks and pheasants, but not many with grouse. In fact, the last time I posted a picture of a grouse was Dec. 24, 2015. It’s not that I don’t like hunting these wonderful birds, it’s just that it’s tough budgeting the time. Well, Cindy is in Florida so yesterday I treated myself to a day in the woods. My brother and I had only walked about 15 minutes when this guy flushed between us, heading “back”. This gave me a wonderful “right to left” swing on a passing shot. One shot with RST #7 1/2, and it went down. It ended up being our only “kill”, but we were pleased to have 9 flushes. What was especially nice was this was my “first blood” with this Fox that I affectionately refer to as “Sally”.

Just for fun, I would like to make an offer to this group. I will mail a $25 check to the first person that can correctly identify who this gun was named after. There is a clue in the picture. This offer expires at noon, Sunday, Nov. 5, 2023. I figured I should have an end date, but I suspect someone will figure it out quickly.

Beautiful picture, Jeff.

I'll guess that the name has something to do with the single trigger, maybe SAL (single and light) being the root name for SALLY. Right or not, Sally's a good name for a Fox.

Stan, you put some thought into it, so I’ll give the group a good clue.

When any of us look at a gun in a picture, we like to look at the engraving and the checkering. In my picture, those items are hidden by feathers. Yup, the the stuff you really want to see are covered up with feathers. 😁

Bingo!!! Roger, you win. Send a pm with your address and I’ll mail you the check. Next time I see you at Hausmann’s we can talk about my other guns: Del, Queenie, and Joan.

Craig, I hope this picture doesn’t violate our code of ethics.

Steg, no need. I wouldn't cash your check anyway.

Slip me an 8 gauge shell or 2 at Hauseman's in June.

I'm "Jones"ing for some 8 gauge ammo.

It was fun.
