Good morning - I just picked up my first Fox and ended up with a Sterlingworth 16 gauge with 2 1/2 “ chambers . Modified and full - what’s your favorite load for that set up ? Thanks

RST 7.5's or 8's if you can get them.

Maybe 6's for grouse in late season.

In the very thick cover we hunt in NY State, early in the season I load 7 or 7.5s in the right barrel and 6s in the left of my 16 ga. SKUGG. Chokes are .005 R and .011 L. Later in the season when we can see further through the tree canopy I load same in the R barrel and 8s in the L depending on the topography and tree density. If we jump a woodcock (rare where we hunt) I will load a #9 or #10 shot in the R barrel. I normally shoot RST 2.5 inchers, even tho my SKUGG is bored for 2 3/4" shells. They are superior patterning loads and the #10 Woodcock load is terrific for railbirds as well. Kevin

As I am heading out this morning for the opening of our grouse season here in MI this is a timely topic. I like Kevin’s advice for the early season with thick cover. I do the same!

A friend and I were out riding our quads yesterday on woods roads in the wilds of northeast PA and we came across many turkeys and 6 grouse. Many berries and some grapes here and there. Much better outlook than our late summer ride last year. frank

That always happens when the season isn't open But it is a good sign nonetheless.
