Kudos to Jeff Stegmeier in the latest Summer issue of the AHFCA
Newsletter.
He wrote an excellent article on shotgun patterns with various maker's
doubles used for duck hunting. The non-toxic shot patterns in various
vintage doubles was an eye opener.

Owning a 30-in Super, 1916 BE And XE gave me some reflection
on type of non-toxic shot shells to use-and types best avoided.
This is a well-researched article with quite a lot of value.
Not all bismuth ammunition is created equal. Pattern -testing one's own guns
is a must!
I have 3-in guns by Fox, LC Smith, Parker ,
and Winchester. More patterns
coming up.

Thanks! Everyone’s results could vary, but the test helped me understand my guns, and the importance of patterning.

Yes an excellent article and I suggested some other patterning aspects to Jeff yesterday while at the Northern SxS. One question I have is, if the Boss Bismuth is in fact heavily copper plated or merely copper washed for aesthetics and marketing apppeal. frank

Jeff, one question about the BOSS shells you tested ......... were they the lower pressure (about 8000 psi) fiber wad loaded shells, or the regular loads that BOSS lists on their website that are loaded with plastic shot cups?

Thanks, Stan

Stan, that’s a good question. While I was writing the article I forgot that they offered the two styles of shells. When I ordered the shells last summer, Boss was out of the
Low pressure shells with the paper wads. The shells I tested were the standard variety.

Jeff, thanks for your article. It caused quite a stir both here and on the Parker website. John
