Fox Collectors

I was having a little work finished up on my Fox today and the gunsmith showed me this future project.
There’s a new set of barrels on the way…
He might need another piece of iron or two.

Can we say money pit?

Wow! First Fox I've ever seen with ported barrels!! Also like the "Custer Battlefield" patina on the receiver and breech end of the barrels!!! Kevin

The bottom screw look good.

Bet it goes boom if you pull the trigger. Probably the last time you'd ever pull the trigger and the last time it would go boom.

PS. Rub it with a copper penny and oil, I'm sure 99 percent of that will clean up.

Anything can be done, but realistically it looks like a Parts gun to me.

What I find interesting is that the gun appears to have been previously "restored". Re-case collared action, refinished and embellished wood. But the barrels got that bad from poor storage after the fact. Or something else? odd...

It makes me wonder if whatever process was used on the bluing caused the accelerated corrosion.

It had obviously been refinished and restocked at one time. It was stored in a safe in a gun sock. I’m guessing the barrels were in the gun sock by themselves.

I have a buddy who is a concrete contractor. All of his guns would start to rust on the ride home from an outing. If he didn't attend to them right away they would get covered in surface rust. It usually wasn't a big deal but he left a real nice 28 gauge Charles Daly in a case and went to Florida for two weeks with the wife and and when he got back he for got all about it. That summer he found it starting to pit real bad.

He blamed it on lime dust.
