16fox, welcome to the club. From the serial # provided, and based on the lists on the home page, your gun could be dated from 1929-1940, best I can tell. IMHO don't think you were hurt at all and probably got a great deal based on your info. I also have a 16 ga. A grade. The chokes would need to be measured with a good choke measuring gauge and confirmed with a letter from Mr Callahan. This letter would also verify date shipped and where shipped. His info for this is also located on the home page. Do you have any photos that can be posted? We love photos of members guns. Also, could I please have the name, address and phone number of said pawn shop? I would like to place a call and see if they have more items such as this.

The value is a hard question to answer. Many unknowns but a guess would be anywhere from $1,000-$3,000. Other guys on this forum are much more knowledgeable and experienced than I am. Check out gunbroker.com. Search on "fox". See what pulls in the search. Your gun sounds like an AE
(the E meaning ejector). If you need help posting the pictures please ask.

It means that if the gun is not all rusted up and the stock is not all busted up that for $500.00 you did very very well.

The SP-/SPE-Grade was added to thew A.H. Fox lineup by Savage in mid-1932. It featured the same mechanicals as the traditional Ansley H. Fox gun but had a streamlined receiver that was finished black instead of the traditional color casehardening found on other Fox doubles. The earliest SP-/SPE-Grades were absolutely plain --

Later they got a bit of engraving --

In 1935 the SP-/SPE-Grade Skeet & Upland Game Gun was introduced and it had quite a bit of scroll engraving --
