A limit day, plenty of birds, widgeon, woodies, gadwall, pintail and mallard. A 5 species day. Nellie had 12 retrieves.

Well done, Craig! Some of my Arkansas buddies think if it doesn't have a green head it's a trash duck, but I like the variety, myself!

I take pride in getting my labs in excellent physical condition, she hunts ducks three days a week and upland once or twice per week for 2 1/2 months. An out of condition dog won't last that grind. She was tired but bounces right back. I'm the one that gets pooped LOL.

I agree, Craig. But, in many parts of eastern Arkansas they are called exactly that ......... some will be gracious enough to refer to them as "extras". If we are fortunate enough to limit on mallards my host will usually say "Let's pack it in.", not being willing to wait on any other species. In the flooded timber there the woodies fly very early in the mornings, just after legal shooting time, then you usually don't see any more the rest of the morning. When it's legal to shoot I will stand up, turn my cap around backwards, gun in the "low gun" position, and they all know what I'm looking for ........... woodies. They all get a chuckle out of that. Heck, I'd rather eat woodies and teal than mallards anyway!

Stay after 'em, Craig. I'm waiting for Nov. 12-13, when youth, disabled, active duty military and veterans get to hunt for two days before the regular season comes in. I'm in the veterans category.

I have ridden all the way to Reelfoot just to hunt "other ducks". Teal, to be specific. About four years ago we went for the teal opener in September and had a blast. Great food, too, at the Blue Bank Resort restaurant.

We are still thick with the "other birds" up here in Central NY. I have hunted day three and four at our duck club. All woodies, widgeon and a few GWT showing up. Nellie has made 34 retrieves so far with two lost. The woodie numbers are amazing.

Woodies are beautiful birds. Fun to shoot as they slip/slide in, and very tasty too.

Send some down here Craig . spent the morning at the impounds in VA Beach and did not see anything.

Must be one happy dog.
