Fox Collectors

Here's serial number 53568, marked "The Sterlingworth Company" on the frame and barrels: I think Researcher has seen Sterlingworth Company guns as high as the 538xx range, but this is still one of the higher numbers. What I believe is unusual is it has a Baker-style forearm attachment with a J-hook spring, which I thought are only seen on the early Sterlingworth Company guns.

The gun is in pretty good shape, the lock-up is tight and on-face. The barrels are 28", and the chokes measure .025" and .037". I wonder what year it was made.

From 531xx to 538xx was transition. The highest serial number The Sterlingworth Co. gun I've recorded has Model 1911 on the forearm iron and the FOX PROOF mark on the barrel flat. I'd guess your gun is very late 1910 or early 1911.

Thanks! The only thing on the forearm iron on this gun is the serial number and there is no FOX PROOF on the flats. The name Fox doesn't appear anywhere on the gun. The seller didn't know a lot about double guns and I don't think he knew it was a Fox. That's probably what Ansley intended!
