Fox Collectors

Some posts in another thread got me to thinking about the chambers in my 3" chambered HE gun (so marked). I know Frank graciously offers to measure them for folks who can travel to certain venues but, in absence of that, I was trying to think of another way to do it accurately myself.

Could I not cast the chambers with Cerrosafe and measure the casting, and compare the results with original chamber specs to determine originality of the chambers? And, if so, where would one find the dimensions of original HE chambers?

I'm fairly certain mine have not been messed with, but assurance would be worth something to me, and might be an interesting wintertime mini-project.

I've done extensive tech research on Super-Foxes including chambers and never found published dimensional specs for the original Fox 3 IN. chambers. Likewise I don't think there were any industry specs for long (3-inch)12ga chambers prior to the SAAMI which wasn't around in late 1922 when the first accepted Super-Foxes emerged from Phila. My Fox 3 IN. chamber gauge was machined to an average of several righteous Super-Fox chamber casts. Stan my friend, you'll just have to travel with your Super to one of the vintage SxS shoots up north where the Fox guys hang out. frank
