I bought a new gun at the Southern. It's a very interesting LC Smith Special Order from 1919. It has engraving like the early A-1's. The stock is highly figured with a crushed silver recoil pad leather faced. The checkering is fine and the pistol grip has a fancy shape. The gun is 2 3/4" chamber but beefy at 8lbs 14oz with 30" IM/F chokes. The min. walls are .049/.049. It is built like a Super Fox or Parker 3 frame 12 except it has standard bores of .727. I did sell a LC Smith Grade 3 10ga 30" damascus so I came home from the Southern with the same number of guns I left with LOL. Fulton NY is only about 30 miles from my duck club, I have always had a soft spot for Smith guns.

Congratulations that’s Beautiful Very nice high condition LCS. Do you know if the frame is marked with a grade under the lock plates? I own a 32” Specialty grade similarly choked that is my go to shotgun for ducks and Sandhill cranes. Look forward to hearing how it shoots.

I too have a soft spot for LC Smith guns and so does my friend Adam Pickett who was HOA (High Over All in tournament lingo) in last Saturday's Smith - Parker Challenge at the Southern SxS. Not only did Smith win against a formidable Parker team, but Adam shot "lights out" with his LC Smith Long Range 32" gun, 1927 vintage, 3-inch chambered and weight at 8-8. For those readers who shoot sporting and fret whether to change their modern high/long stocked and screw choked gun from Mod to IC at a particular station, consider that Adam's Long Range duck gun has standard Field dimensions and is choked 43 and 45 points, both X-Full. Just goes to show what we sporting clays shooters have been exposed to in magazine adverts by gun manufacturers offering one must-have new gimmick after another. frank

Congratulations!! I'm not an L.C. Smith fan, but if you have to have one that one is pretty darn nice.

Is there a name or term for that grip style? It was pretty common on early Marlin rifles & shotguns and Ballard single shots --
The C.A. Godshalk Ansley H. Fox shotgun has a grip with a quite subtle interpretation of that grip style his initials carved on the face of the grip.

Here's a snip of one of Dana's guns that was up at Julia's back in 2017. Full PG, all wood, no cap. Pretty damn rare IMO. The description read "Pistol grip ends in an ogee flourish instead of being capped." That was a new one to my ears. Sounds more like a high risk move from the world of figure skating!!
