Poor Gunner

Post by MC1952 »

Poor old Gunner blew out his ACL on his last hunt this year. Surgery 2 days ago and a 4-5 month rehab in his future.
Bummer…

Good luck Gunner. Just do what the Doc says and you'll be back chasing birds by Oct.

Talked to Mike today and Gunner is doing fine. Going to be a journey. I've hunted behind Gunner since day one. He is one helluva hunting dog.

It is a long recovery but very successful, I had a lab a few years back that had both CCL's done with the TPLO surgery.

MC, how old is Gunner? I know you will take good care of him. I can see many birds pointed by Gunner in the future and even a few of them in your game bag.

Not sure when Mike will see this but I know. Gunner is 5 and he is a Berg Brothers Setter. One helluva bird dog. Could find a Woodcock in a Walmart parking lot. :)

Gunner has been to Michigan to the Northern Lower quite a few times. I recall one morning where in about 30 minutes he pointed 11 Woodcock in less then 30 minutes. That was a short morning of hunting for Woodcock. None were however in the Walmart parking lot that day.

Sounds like an ideal morning. There is some nice cover in that area.

Gunner is handling it well, unexpectedly.
If I can keep him quiet for a few more weeks he’ll be over the hardest part. But he is on restricted movement for 3 more months. I’ll get him back in shape by October.
I need more of this.

Oh no! Not the dreaded cone! The other day I noticed a dog with a huge inflatable collar that served the same purpose. Have fun.
