New A to the collection
Took my new to me A 20/30" out on her maiden voyage around the clays course and performed well on the first 25 targets. 22/25. Not bad but somehow I always shoot a new gun well the first time I shoot it. I haven't patterned it yet but I can judge the way I break targets with it that it has patterns I can live with.
But then the bottom fell out. It doubled every time I would fire the right barrel first so I switched to shooting the left barrel first and it solved the problem temporarily. Anyway the chokes are .014 and .024. Nice combination for clays or birds. 6lb 19oz., 1 5/8 x 2 5/8 x 14 1/4.

That’s a very nice looking A. It’s going to look great with a South Dakota pheasant.
Shoot vintage firearms, relax, and have fun.

Yes Reggie, there a few of us who love these smallbores, especially 30" or better.

Nice A grade there Daryl,
For some reason I just love seeing those red Hawkin pads with the heart shape vents on a shotgun.
Looking forward to watching you take pheasant with that long legged beauty

Thanks Craig. Shot it today 100+ rounds using the back trigger first and had no problems.

Re: New A to the collection
I have a shooter Sterlingworth pin gun that had a similar but opposite problem. When our friend the late Bill Harvey took it apart, he said a splinter from an internal crack was keeping the right sear from seating fully. As long as I shot right barrel first things were fine if I dropped into the back trigger for a long shot it would double. He could have fixed the original stock, but I had a Claro blank that I'd moved around for about twenty years, so had him restock it.

Re: New A to the collection
Thanks for the info Dave. The stock had been damaged at the head in shipment, then repaired and returned to me. That could very well be the problem. Bill Harvey was a great stock man and a character to talk to.
