Fox Collectors

This 1917 12 GA Fox XE has been mine for a few years and has just returned
after some internal adjustments with tightening of action and tolerances.
I have a real straight stock weakness for the thin ribbon border checking pattern-seen during the Gough-
Godshalk period of the 1915-1919 era. Barrels are 30 inch extra full with weight held
to 7 pounds 8 ounces. Very well balanced to leather faced Silvers pad. A wild turkey
and Canada goose gun par excellance. This XE has a companion HE Super Fox that
encounters the same large fowl more often during the seasons.

Camera must have been on burst mode. Would love to see some closeups and yes, that is my favorite checkering pattern on the XE's hands down.

Yes-the camera also has automatic ejectors. But, no need to go back to the original photo!

Beautiful gun! I had a 20gauge double triggers and 28 inch barrels and was one of the first 20s made but i should have kept it!!!!!!! Bobby

This little XE Fox will probably be only used for turkey hunting.

It reminds me of some of the guns owned by Tom Kidd and
featured in his Double Gun Journal Fox articles. Recommended reading
for Fox folks.

The nicest -or one of the nicest of the XE grades-is the Exposition XE
pictured under AHFCA Grades with the deep Gough chiseled engraving.
Virtually unique to AH Fox.

Next month it will be 59 years since I got my first Ansley H. Fox, but I've never been a big fan of the Gough patterns that to me look like they were done with a cold chisel. If I'm paying for engraving, I much prefer a Glahn engraved Lefever or a Loy engraved Remington.

As much as I admire the intricate engraving on our family 3rd generation Parker AAHE,
I have to agree with Tom Kidd on Fox deep Gough pre-1920s engraving patterns. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. And then there are DeLuxe L.C. Smiths...
