Is there any way short of a letter to determine whether or not a Savage-era gun is a Deluxe? The gun in question has two ivories and a pad.

Chances are good if it has two beads and a Jostrom pad with the slant vents. I have one that letters like that. But the only way to know for sure is a letter.

Jostam Anti-Flinch were the most common pads used on Sterlingworth and A grade Foxes. Jostam Manufacturing Co. of Peotone ILL. made a number of types of recoil pads for shotguns and rifles including sponge rubber pads with one or two layers of sponge rubber, the aforementioned Anti-Flinch with diagonal spaces, Hy-Gun with horizontal spaces, plus rubber slip on and leather lace on pads. Hy-Gun pads crop up on occasion but Anti-Flinch pads seem are becoming scarce these days. Perhaps someone will start producing them again as they have the other copies.

I have a 1949 Jostam catalogue, and they still appear in the 1950 Stoergers catalogue, and the fourth edition of The Gun Digest. I don't find them shown in anything I have from 1951 or later.
