Lost a good one today

Post by vaturkey »

My 12 year old Golden was put down this morning. She had been battling pancreatitis per the vet for 3 weeks. Real struggle to get her to eat. Last night she wouldn't go outside and this morning we found her in horrible shape. Ran her to the emergency vet who did an ultrasound and found a large mass in her stomach. Can't believe the xrays didn't find it two weeks ago, but they didn't. She crossed over the bridge at 7 am with me giving her a big hug. Shame dogs don't live as long as we do. The world would be a better place for sure. Bless you Gracie. You were a good one. There is a large hole in my life today.

Condolences to you! Dogs are special in our lives and a select few of us have the even deeper connection as having them as hunting partners. My Boykin is not quite 5 yet, and I already dread the day that comes. Good girl, Gracie and best wishes to you!

I feel sad for you, Tom. Gracie was a beautiful hunting companion. I have had the picture of you and Abby from the last newsletter on my computer desk for quite a while. Abby looks so happy in that picture. We won't forget Abby or Gracie. Jim

So sorry for your loss . It just isn’t fair that our canine companions aren’t with us longer. I’m sure You will hunt together again someday .

Nothing hurts exactly the same as losing your trusted woods/home companion. It has always been evident that you and Gracie had something special. Try to take comfort in knowing your friends here care. Many of us have walked that dark path, too.

Tom, I am so sorry to hear of Gracie's passing. Tough times for sure. A friend once offered me this; how as a young man he told his father he was getting a hunting dog, and his father a wise man told him to know that part of you will die when your best friend passes. And that he didn't know then how right his father was. RIP Gracie and solace to you Tom and to your wife. frank

So sorry to hear Tom.

I know Gracie was special to you, as are all your dogs.

Thanks for the kind words all. I'm up early this morning and taking Sophie and we will be hitting the national forest in Va hunting some of the same areas Gracie and I used to hunt. Will be bittersweet for sure, and expect to find nothing as all of these areas are well past their prime. That said I'll be out and there will be some good memories of our time together in the field. She will no doubt be with me in spirt.
